I am pretty excited to greet you through this letter. My name is Margarita Gutierrez de la Cruz and I hope you are doing well. I am nine years old, and this year, I am in second grade. At the moment, I receive live classes and deliver homework almost every day except on Tuesday. Unfortunately, I have difficulties doing homework because of the pandemic. In my free time, I help to do the chores. Let me tell you that my father struggles to cover our necessities. He makes a living as a day laborer and travels to the coast for cutting sugar cane for five months. On the other hand, my mother works hard cleaning the house, preparing our meals, and taking care of my siblings and me. My family and I live in our own house which is made of wood with a tin sheet roof and a dirt floor. Our home only has one room where we have the bedroom and the kitchen at the same time. We do not have electricity or running water. However, we use an oil lamp or lantern to light our room and get water with a hose from a spring.
I love spending time with my family; what we enjoy the most is eating snacks in the afternoons. Christmas is a beautiful season, but we do not celebrate it for our low resources. Actually, Covid-19 has affected our economy because there is not much work for my father in our village, and he does not earn enough. However, nobody has gotten the virus and we are healthy. My family and I are members of Christ Church which is about fifty minutes far away from our home. When our church had to close for the virus, we felt sad, but nowadays it works as normal. I want to tell you that I could not attend the feeding program for a long time to avoid the infections. Nevertheless, the Living Water staff supplied us with food parcels. I take this opportunity to thank God and you for loving and being aware of me through Adopt a Child. Nowadays, the feeding program is open again: this is an hour far away from my home. Lastly, I want to tell you that my father gave this information to an evangelism team member to share with you my last news. May God bless you greatly with His love, peace, and wisdom!
Lots of love,
Margarita Gutierrez de la Cruz
