My Story

Dear Sponsor,

Hello! I am Jose Luis and it is a great pleasure for me to write you this letter and tell you about my life. I hope you are doing well. I live with my family and grandfather. There are three children in the family. My house is made of tin sheet metal and we have two rooms. My father is a day laborer and now he is working as a foreman in a farm called Tempixque that is located in my town. My mother picks coffee beans in a farm during the harvest. Thank God, my whole family is in good health, except for my mother who is having some problems with her stomach. I do not know what is affecting her, but she went to the doctor and is already taking medicine. I am in seventh grade this year and I am doing a good job at school. It is nice to study and my favorite subject is communication and language.

I do not work yet but I hope to find a good job in the future. The most beautiful day for me was my birthday because we ate cake and drank sodas. They also smashed my face in the cake and we broke a “piñata” (a kind of puppet filled with candies). My dream is to become a mechanic. I love going out to play and eating something with my friends in the local plaza. My family and I do not attend church because we do not have much time.  We always talk when we are passing through difficult moments. I want to ask you to pray for my mother’s life. One of my dreams is to continue studying and graduate as a mechanic. I share with you that I spent a good Christmas with my family and my parents bought me new clothes. I lit fireworks and we had “tamales and ponche” (typical dish and hot fruit punch). It was a special night together with my family. I hope you enjoy my letter and to hear from you soon. Please keep my family and me in your prayers. I say goodbye to you for now.

With much love

Jose Luis Farfan Godinez
