My Story

Chuchuca, where your child lives, is an area located high on the side of a mountain in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this area is very difficult and very isolated from the outside world. It is more than a two-hour walk to the nearest market town of Zacualpa. Chuchuca is a farming area where corn and black beans, the staple elements in their diet, are the major crops. The Quiché Mayans who inhabit this area trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization. They normally speak a Mayan dialect called Quiché - however, Spanish is becoming more common. Very little money ever changes hands in this area as they live on a barter system.

Hello! I am Carolina Chingo Cux. I was born on June 3, 2019, and my current age is 4 years old. I am still not attending school because of my young age. So, I spend my time playing with my toy dishes. I love the color pink, and my favorite animal is the cat. The meal I love is fried chicken. By the grace of God, my family and I are in good health. I have four sisters and two brothers. My father´s name is Juan Chingo Mendez. He works as both a farmer and a day laborer, but he also goes to pick coffee beans on the coast during the harvesting. My mother´s name is Angelica Cux Gomez. She does the housework, weaves typical blouses and raises hens.

My family and I attend Prince of Peace Church. Thank God, we own the house in which we live. There are two adobe rooms with tile roofs and a floor that is just dirt; we use one room as a bedroom and the other as a kitchen. There is running water but no electricity; we use candles or lamps to get light. As for the water, my parents make a payment once per year. Our greatest needs are groceries and clothes. I walk 30 minutes to get to the feeding program. My mother Angelica Cux Gomez provided my personal information to the Living Water staff for my registration in the program. Well, this is all for now. Many and abundant blessings!

Best wishes,

Carolina Chingo Cux
