My Story

Hello! My name is Fike Beqo. I am 74 years old and my birthday is on July 14th. I am doing well regarding health, for my age, being an elderly woman, but I am facing hardships walking due to the sciatic nerve illness. Sometimes I have no pain and can walk normally, but when I am ill, I have to take medication, mainly pain killers, and I need to spend more time inside the house, just laying in bad and doing nothing. I am widow since after my husband died. He passed away before two years. I have eight children who are all matured and married. They have children and I am a grandmother of 15 grandsons and granddaughters.

I live with my son and his wife. I am happy that I am not living alone and that I have a son who cares for me. I used to work here in the village in agriculture. My retiring pension is very small. I am glad to give the whole amount to my son who cares to cover all of my needs for living. My son and his wife work and they manage all things in the house. I do my best to help them, while we are a family. I can see the other children and my grandchildren when they come to visit us and we also have video calls often. I am happy to see them all, and when they visit, the house gets crowdy and I love hearing the noise of my grandchildren playing altogether. I spend the day in the house and when the weather is nice, I like to go out and sit in front of the house. I like to take walks to go and visit friends and we sit and have conversations over a coffee or tea. Now that the winter is almost here, I stay inside and sit on our living room watching television, mainly I watch folk music or news of the day. When my son and his wife work in the garden, I also help them, with all that I can offer. During the autumn, my daughter in law collect fruits and I like to let them dry first and afterwards, I boil them to turn to juice. We also fill jars with vegetables and jam, so we have them stored to be used during winter.

I am happy that I attend the Bible study for ladies at the church of Living Water Katjel and I like to her about God through the Bible passages that the leader of these Bible studies read to us. I receive food packages every two months and am very happy for such a tremendous help that is given to me through the sponsorship program of Adopt a Child. Thank you from my heart and God bless you richly
