My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small, attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value. Life in Quiché is always a challenge.

It is a brilliant day to say hello to you! Let me introduce myself. My name is Yoselin Gonzalez Jimon. I was born on September 25, 2019, in Joyabaj, Quiche, Guatemala. I am now 7 years old. I have one brother and two sisters. I am in kindergarten. I enjoy playing with my dolls. My favorite color is pink. I like unicorns. I love eating hamburgers. Thanks to God, I am healthy, and so is my family. My father is Sebastian Gonzalez Pol. He works at a plant nursery and is responsible for providing for our family. My mother is Rosa Jimon Castro. She takes care of our home and raises hens. Additionally, she weaves traditional blouses to sell and earn some income. I love seeing how my parents support each other to move our family forward.

We are members of the King of the Centuries Christian Church. I am grateful that my parents own the house we live in, and my paternal grandmother lives with us. Our house has two adobe rooms with a tile roof and a cement floor, while the kitchen is separate. We have electricity, which my parents pay for every month, and we get our water from a well. We also have a few dogs as pets. As a family, our greatest need is groceries. I am very happy to be enrolled in the feeding program, which is located about 25 minutes away by car.
