My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiche, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value.  Life in Quiche is always a challenge.

I am very grateful for the opportunity to be part of Living Water and to be blessed with lunch and medicine. My name is Astrid Sofia Garcia Chingo and it is a pleasure to send you my sincere regards. I am 4 years old now. I was born on August 3, 2022. I enjoy playing dolls and I love pink. My favorite animals are chickens. The meal that I like the most is fried chicken. Let me tell you about my family. Thankfully, they are in good health. My father is Ramiro Garcia Franco. He works as a day laborer. My mother is Juana Chingo Morente. She is a housewife and she earns money raising and selling hens. I have one brother and three sisters. They are members of the feeding program too. My family attends the Betel National Methodist Gospel Church.

God has blessed us with our own house. There are two rooms made of adobe, tin sheet roof and dirt floor. We have electricity and my father pays for this service. One of our neighbors shares the water with us, and we get it through a hose. Our greatest needs are groceries and shoes. The feeding program is about 40 minutes from my home. All I can say is thanks to each and every person who makes this possible. God Bless you!

Warm regards,

Astrid Sofia Garcia Chingo
