My Story

Pasojoc III, where your child lives, is located in an extremely remote area of the mountains in Quiche, Guatemala.  Life in this area is very difficult and very isolated from the outside world. It is a 3-hour walk to the nearest market town.  The people who inhabit the area are Quiche Mayans who can trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization.  They normally speak a Mayan dialect called Quiche, however, Spanish is becoming more common.  The climate is basically warm, but it can get very cold at night.  Houses in this area are typically constructed of adobe with tin sheet or tile roofs and dirt floors.  Pasojoc III is an area rich with natural resources.  It is a farming area where the inhabitants grow staples such as corn, beans and other types of vegetables.  Many families also raise domestic animals such as sheep, goats, cows and chickens.

Good morning! My full name is Deisy Eugenia Garcia Luis and I was born on February 20, 2017 in Zacualpa, Quiche. I am a healthy 9-year-old-girl and I am repeating 2nd grade this year. I like to play tag. I love rabbits and the color blue. I enjoy eating noodle soup. My past time is to play with toy dishes. My father`s name is Roberto Garcia de Leon and my mother`s name is Isabel Luis Gomez. She is a housewife and my father sustains the family by working as a farmer and typical day laborer. As a family, we travel to the coast to pick coffee beans at the end of the year for two months to earn extra money to cover our needs.  I have 5 brothers and 1 sister and two of them are also registered in the Feeding Program. My older brother accompanies me to the Project and we walk for one hour to come.

We are believers and we attend the New Covenant Prince of Peace Christian Church. We live in my parent`s house, and we have two adobe rooms with tin sheet roof and dirt floor. We also have a separated kitchen. We have running water, and my uncle gives us the electricity. My father pays for the service. We have hens and pigs at home. Thankfully, my family and I are in good health. Well, this is all for now, but I hope you enjoy reading my personal information. May God bless you richly!

Strong hugs,

Deisy Eugenia Garcia Luis
