My Story

Duenas, where your child lives, is a small farming village located at the foot of one of Guatemala's active volcanoes, Fuego (Fire). The fertile ground around the village allows for the cultivation of roses and coffee, two of Guatemala's largest exports. Most of the families in this area live in one or two room wooden or adobe houses with tin roofs. Electricity is available to those who can afford it. Running water is available - however, most homes do not have indoor plumbing. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider education of value. Life in Duenas is quiet and sometimes difficult.

Hello, I am so excited to send my greetings through this, and I hope you are doing well alongside your loved ones! My full name is Enyel Aroldo Mixia Veliz. My birthday is on July 4, 2021, and I recently turned 5 years old. I live with my parents and siblings. We are so blessed since we are in good health. Alvaro Mixia Quic is my father, and he does smithy work to support us. Heidy Jeanneth Veliz Chicay is my mother, and she does the household work and takes care of my two brothers and me. My family and I are members of the Holy Fire Christian Church.

I am in Preschool this year. My hobby is playing football. I like the color red, and the animal I like the most is the dog. Pizza is my favorite food. My family and I are so blessed since we are living in our own house. There are two rooms made of blocks with a concrete roof and a ceramic floor. There are water and electricity, and my father pays for them. As a family, our greatest needs are groceries. It is a great blessing for me to be enrolled in the feeding program and receive tasty meals. I attend alongside my siblings, and we walk for 15 minutes to arrive at the program.
