My Story

Hello! My name is Hava Xhukellari. I am 83 years old and my birthday is on March 1^st. I am an elderly lady and for this reason, I do have to go to the doctors every month to get medication and have the blood pressure controlled and stabilized. Because of age, I have started to have problems with my kidneys as well as rheumatism. I live in a village that is very near to the town of Pogradec and I frequent the church of Living Water regularly. My husband has died before 15 years. I have a son and a daughter who live abroad and work in these countries. Besides these two children I also had a son who was mentally ill and disabled. I used to care for him in the house till he died. My other son and daughter are married and have children, so I am grandmother of four grandchildren. They come to Albania and I see them during the summer, or during the New Year, while they stay here for several weeks. I used to work in farming during the communism regime and for this reason, my pension is one of the lowest. My children try to help me with all that they can, but I am still challenged, living alone and with very low income to make it during the month. I am thankful though that I have a house of my own. My house is very old. I have a bedroom and a living room. Quite a small house, but this is what I need at present. I am now in an old age to do a lot. Most of the time, I stay inside and watch television, or go to meet and chat with my friends and neighbors. Very rarely, I go to the town, whenever I need to do visits to the hospitals, once every month. The only time I am out of my house is when I come to frequent the church every Friday, and when the weather is nice. I am thankful to the program for the provision in food as well as for the help they are giving to me as church constantly. I have made friends while I come to the church and fellowship with the other ladies. Thank you for your generosity and care. God bless you!
