My Story

Pasojoc is an area located high on the side of a mountain in the state of Quiche, Guatemala. Life in this area is very difficult and very isolated from the outside world. It is more than a two-hour walk to the nearest market town of Zacualpa. Pasojoc is a farming area where corn and black beans, the staple elements in their diet, are the major crops. The Quiche Mayans who inhabit this area trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization. They normally speak a Mayan dialect called Quiche - however, Spanish is becoming more common. Very little money ever changes hands in this area as they live on a barter system.

Hello, I am so happy for the opportunity to share my personal information. My full name is Kevin Alexander Grave Chivalan and I was born in January 17, 2022. I am 4 years old and I am not enrolled at school yet due to my age. I stay at home and I play soccer. Fried chicken is my favorite meal and I love red.  I like cows. I have 1 brother and 4 sisters, and five of them belong to this project which is located in the local school from Pasojoc I. We are happy because we have the opportunity to receive delicious meals made with much love in that place. We prefer to go there because it is nearer to us and we walk 30 minutes to arrive.

I want to tell you that we are believers and we attend the Christian Life Church. By the grace of God, my family and I are doing fine and in good health. We are blessed because we live in our own house, so we do not need to pay any rent. We have two rooms and one separated kitchen. The rooms are made of adobe walls, tin sheet roof and dirt floors. We do not have water, but my grandmother shares it with us and she also provides us with electricity. My parents pay her a little monthly amount for the service. My father is a hardworking man. He works as a farmer and day laborer. In addition, he travels to the coast to pick coffee beans two or three times per year for three months to earn extra money. However, it is not enough to cover every expense, so we are in need of groceries and clothes because we are a humble family. My mother stays at home taking care of us and raises hens to sell and get some income. She also has a cow. Well, thank you for reading my little story and I hope you find it interesting. I send you many blessings!

In Jesu`s name,

Kevin Alexander Grave Chivalan
