My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiche, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value.  Life in Quiche is always a challenge.
Hello! My name is Felipe Hernandez Perez and I was born on September 10, 2020. I attend school this year in Pre-kindergarten. In my spare time, I enjoy playing toy cars. My favorite color is yellow and I love cats. The most delicious meal is eggs and sausage. Our family consists of my parents and me, since I am an only child.  My father is Francisco Geovany Hernandez Gonzalez. He earns a living making artisanal wells. My mother is Sindy Perez Pacajoj, and she helps to improve our income by making typical embroider items to sell. She also raises hens. My family attends an Adventist church. By the grace of God, we are in good health.

I live with my family in our grandmother´s house. There are four rooms and a separate kitchen, made of adobe, tin sheet roof and concrete floor. We have water from a well and electricity. Our greatest need is groceries. We walk about 30 minutes from home to the feeding program. I will leave you now, but thank you so much for reading my letter! I hope you have a lovely and blessed day.

Warm regards,
Felipe Hernandez
