My Story

Cuatro Caminos "four roads", where your child lives, is an area located high on the side of a mountain in the state of Quiche, Guatemala. Life in this area is very difficult and very isolated from the outside world. It is a two hour walk to the nearest market town of Zacualpa. Cuatro Caminos is a farming area where corn and black beans, the staple elements in their diet, are the major crops. The Quiche Mayans who inhabit this area trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization. They normally speak a Mayan dialect called Quiche - however, Spanish is becoming more common. Very little money ever changes hands in this area as they live on a barter system.

Hello! I am Edy David Morente Ajqui, and I am so happy to be part of the feeding program. Two of my siblings are registered at the program too, and we walk for 10 minutes to arrive there. I have 2 brothers and 3 sisters. I am 4 years old, and I was born on January 21, 2022. Thank God, I am in good health. I do not attend school yet due to my age, so I stay at home playing soccer and with my toy cars. I love the color blue, and my favorite animal is the sheep. The food what I like the most is fried chicken.

At the moment, my family and I are not attending a churchMy parents’ names are David Morente Ruiz and Juana Ajqui Riz; thankfully, they are in good health. My dad works as a day laborer, and he grows corn, and collects firewood to sell. My mom sells vegetables like cauliflowers and cabbages in the local plaza on Sundays. In addition, the whole family goes to pick coffee beans at the coast from November to February. As for domestic animals, we have sheep and pigs. We are a humble family, and our frequent needs are groceries.

We live in our own house which is made of adobe with a tile roof and dirt floor; we only have one room and a kitchen. We do not have running water and electricity. We use flashlights at nights, and we get the water from our own well; we use jars to get the water out. Well, this was a little about my family and me, and my mom helped me to give this information to LW Evangelism team. Take care of yourself!

Yours truly

Edy David Morente Ajqui
