My Story

Pasojoc III, where your child lives, is located in an extremely remote area of the mountains in Quiche, Guatemala.  Life in this area is very difficult and very isolated from the outside world. It is a 3-hour walk to the nearest market town.  The people who inhabit the area Quiche Mayans who can trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization.  Then normally speak a Mayan dialect called Quiche, however, Spanish is becoming more common.  The climate is basically warm, but it can get very cold at night.  Houses in this area are typically constructed of adobe with tin sheet or tile roofs and dirt floors.  Pasojoc III is an area rich with natural resources.  It is a farming area where the inhabitants grow staples such as corn, beans and other types of vegetables.  Many families also raise domestic animals such as sheep, goats, cows and chickens.

Hello! thank you for taking the time to read my personal information. My name is Jose Mauro Grave Morente and I was born on July 26, 2019. I am a healthy six- year- old boy. My favorite animal is sheep. I love to eat black beans and rice. I like red color and I enjoy playing toy cars and soccer with my brother at home. I am not studying yet due to my age, so I stay at home. My brother also is a part of this project and we only walk 5 minutes to the Feeding Center. Thankfully, I am living under my parent`s care and they are in good health. My father`s name is Domingo Grave de la Cruz and my mother`s name is Maria Morente Toj. She is a housewife and she also raises hens and pigs to sell and help my father to home expenses while he works as a farmer and day laborer. Moreover, he travels to the coast for two months to pick coffee beans in order to earn extra money. We are a needy family and our current needs are groceries, clothing, shoes and corn. At the moment, we are not attending any church.

We live in our paternal grandparent`s house and they live with us. My aunts and cousins also live there. We have three rooms made of adobe walls. Tin sheet roof and dirt floors. We also have a separated kitchen. We get water from a river by connecting a hose. We do not have electricity, so we use candles to light at nights. We have some hens, a dog, a sheep and a pig at home.  Well, thank you for your attention and may God bless you greatly!

Strong hugs,

Jose Mauro Grave Morente
