My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water has become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value. Life in Quiché is always a challenge.

I greet you in the name of Jesus! I am so excited to introduce myself in this opportunity. My name is Axel Tomas Morente Chitic. My birthdate is October 28, 2021. I live with my parents, one brother and two sisters. Thank God, we are in good health. Israel Morente de Leon is my father, and he does construction work in our village. Micaela Chitic Panjoj is my mother and she stays busy with the household work. She raises turkeys.

Now, I will share a few things about myself. I am still not attending the school because I am very young. For now, I enjoy playing with my toy cars at home. The food I love the most is fried chicken. I love the color sky blue, and the animal I like the most is the sheep. We are a Christian family and we attend the Emanuel Assembly of God Church. We are so thankful to God because we live on our own property. My paternal grandparents are living with us. It is a block house with tin sheet roof and a cement floor. There are three rooms and a separate kitchen. We have running water and my parents pay for it once a year. About the electricity, my grandfather shares it with us and my parents help to pay it every month. It is a great blessing for me to be enrolled in the feeding program. I live about 30 minutes away from the program and I arrive there by moto taxi; my mom goes with my siblings and me. I have to say goodbye now, but I want to thank you so much for reading about me. Every kind of blessing over you!

Warm hugs,

Axel Tomas Morente Chitic
