My Story

Pasojoc is an area located high on the side of a mountain in the state of Quiche, Guatemala. Life in this area is very difficult and very isolated from the outside world. It is more than a two-hour walk to the nearest market town of Zacualpa. Pasojoc is a farming area where corn and black beans, the staple elements in their diet, are the major crops. The Quiche Mayans who inhabit this area trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization. They normally speak a Mayan dialect called Quiche - however, Spanish is becoming more common. Very little money ever changes hands in this area as they live on a barter system.

Hello! my full name is Angela Pamela Mendez Luis and I am a healthy five-year-old girl. I was born on August 5, 2020 in Zacualpa, Quiche. I am not enrolled at school yet because of my age. I like to play with dolls. I love pink color and cows. My favorite meal is fried chicken. I only have one sister. I am happy because I belong to the Feeding Center. I walk 20 minutes to arrive there. My paternal aunt is also part of the project, so we attend together. I want to tell you that we are persevering in the Prince of Peace Christian Church. Our current needs are groceries and corn.  I am living under my parents’ care. My mother`s name is Miriam Luis Mendez and she dedicates her time to the family while my father`s name is Nazareno Mendez Garcia and he is a farmer. He provides for our financial needs. I am thankful because my family and I are doing fine and enjoying good health.

The house where we live belongs to my paternal grandfather, and we share it with my aunts and grandparents. We have two rooms and one separated kitchen. The rooms are made of adobe walls, tile roof and cemented floors. We have running water and electricity. Everyone in my family contributes to pay for the services monthly. We have hens and we would like to have some chicks because we have a small space at home for them. Well, this was my personal information and I hope you like to read it. May God bless you greatly!

Huge hugs,

Angela Pamela Mendez Luis
