My Story

Dueñas, where your child lives, is a small farming village located at the foot of one of Guatemala's active volcanoes, Fuego (Fire). The fertile ground around the village allows for the cultivation of roses and coffee, two of Guatemala's largest exports. Most of the families in this area live in one or two room wooden or adobe houses with tin roofs. Electricity is available to those who can afford it. Running water is available - however, most homes do not have indoor plumbing. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider education of value. Life in Duenas is quiet and sometimes difficult.

Hello, my name is Clara Luz Guarán Yuca. I send many greetings, and I pray you are well along with your loved ones. I am so excited to share some information with you through this biography, because it is such a great opportunity for me to be a part of Living Water Adopt-A-Child. I have already been so blessed by my visits to the feeding program. They serve delicious food, and the teachers are always so nice. They make me feel so loved and welcomed. My favorite food to eat is fried eggs. They are so easy to make and so good! I have one brother, and he also goes to the program each week with me. His name is Alex Eduardo. He goes to school, but I don’t go yet, because I am still too young, but I will start soon. I just turned six years old this August. My birthday is August 14th. When my brother goes to school, I stay home with my mom, and I love to play with my dolls. Also I want to tell you that my favorite color is red. It is a very pretty color. My mom does not work, because she stays home to watch me and my brother and take care of the chores in the house. My mom’s name is Mirna Leticia Guarán Yuca. I don’t know much about my biological father. My mom has a new partner now, and he has been with us for the past six months. His name is Hector Manuel Coyan Toj. He works as a farmer, and he helps to sustain us financially. We live in a small house in a town called San Miguel Dueñas. We rent our house for Q350 per month. That is about $45. It is a very small house made of metal, and we don’t have a floor. There are two rooms and a little kitchen. We have running water and lights so we can see. Our greatest need as a family is groceries, because we don’t always have enough money after covering all our expenses to get the food we need. We live a little far from the program. We have to walk to get there, and it takes us about an hour. We don’t have any pets or animals, but I hope one day I can have a pet bunny, because that is my favorite animal. They are so cute and fluffy! I have to say goodbye now, but I thank you for taking the time to read my information. I hope you enjoyed reading it and I hope you will consider sponsoring me. I know God will touch the right person’s heart to sponsor me. I pray that God blesses you and your loves ones. Thank you for all you do for the people of Guatemala just like me! Big hugs!

With much love,

Clara Luz Guarán Yuca
