My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiche, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years, electricity and water have become available to most people in the area – however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labor. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value.  Life in Quiche is always a challenge.

Hello! I fondly greet you from the beautiful Chixocol mountain. I hope this letter finds you prospering and blessed in Jesus’ name. My name is Kinsley Yamilet Nailea Quej Naz, and I was born on January 21, 2021. I am a healthy four-year-old girl. I am too young to attend school, so I stay home and play with my sisters. I have two sisters and two brothers. My favorite pastime is making bracelets with them. I love eating fried chicken. My favorite color is purple and I like rabbits. I love my parents because they do their best for our family. Our priorities are groceries. My mother’s name is Herminia Noemi Naz Ordonez. She is a hardworking woman who dedicates her time to my siblings and me, and embroiders typical blouses to help my father with the household expenses.

My father is Hugo Gonzalo Quej Ma. He is a security guard and works in the city. Due to the distance of his workplace, we only see him at home every fifteen days. My family and I live with my aunt and grandmother in their house. They are my relatives on my mother’s side. The house is made of adobe walls with a metal roof and a concrete floor. It has three rooms, a separate kitchen, electricity, and running water. My family and I only use one room. My father helps our relatives financially to cover the electricity service. The feeding program is about 25 minutes from our house. My siblings and I usually walk to get there. Before saying goodbye, I want you to know that my family and I attend a Christian Church called Pentecostal United. Thank you so much for reading my information!

Huge hugs,

Kinsley Yamilet Nailea Quej Naz
