My Story

Pasojoc is an area located high on the side of a mountain in the state of Quiche, Guatemala. Life in this area is very difficult and very isolated from the outside world. It is more than a two-hour walk to the nearest market town of Zacualpa. Pasojoc is a farming area where corn and black beans, the staple elements in their diet, are the major crops. The Quiche Mayans who inhabit this area trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization. They normally speak a Mayan dialect called Quiche - however, Spanish is becoming more common. Very little money ever changes hands in this area as they live on a barter system.

Hello! I am happy to share with you my personal information. My full name is Sandy Faviola Morales Mucia and I was born in Santa Cruz Del Quiche, Guatemala on March 22, 2018. I am 7 years old and I am a first grader student. I like to play with toy dishes. I love pink and doggies. My favorite meal is scrambled eggs. My family and I are in good health. My father`s name is Elias Morales Toj and my mother`s name is Vilma Mucia Gutierrez. My father earns a living by working in a grocery store in Guatemala City. He visits us three times per year. He stays only fifteen days with us and then he returns to his job. He also calls us once a week. He provides for our family expenses once a month while my mother grows and sells herbs. She also raises hens to sell and get some income to support my father with the home expenses. I am happy attending the Feeding Center and my aunt accompanies me. We walk twenty minutes to arrive there. My family and I are in good health.  We are members of Prince of Peace Christian Church. We are a needy family and our current needs are groceries. We live in our own house and my maternal great grandmother is living with us. We have two rooms and a separated kitchen, but we only use one room. The house is made of teen sheet walls, tin roof and dirt floors. We have electricity and my father pays for the service once a month. We get water from a nearby natural spring. We have hens at home. May God bless you greatly and I hope you like to read my letter. I send you all my love from the bottom of my heart!

Warm wishes,

Sandy Faviola Morales Mucia
