Zacualpa

Zacualpa is a small but busy village in a mountain valley. The village is inhabited by both Quiche Mayans and Ladinos (those with mixed European ancestry). The prevalent language is Spanish. Families in this village live in one or two room homes generally constructed of either wood or adobe. Although many of the people are farmers, the village contains several small specialized stores, a body repair shop for buses, mechanics, plumbers and many other small-town tradesmen. It also has a large open-air market which serves much of the area. Even with all of this, the poverty level is very high and the children are very needy.
It is my pleasure to greet you through this letter. My name is Chavelo Elmer Adonias Osorio Vicente, and I want to tell you a little about me. I was born on May 1, 2017, so I am 8 years old now. I am in good health, and I am in 2nd grade this year. After classes, I do my homework. I love playing soccer in my free time, and I enjoy eating beef patties. My favorite color is blue, and I like dogs. I only have one brother. I attend Chosen Remnant Church with my family. My mother’s name is Rosa Nohemi Osorio Vicente, and she can cover our needs thanks to her clothes store; thankfully, she is in good health. I was not legally recognized by my biological father, and I do not have any type of information about him.
We do not have our own house, so we are renting one; my mom pays Q 600.00 quetzals ($78) per month. The house only has one room so we cook and sleep in the same space. It is made of concrete block with a concrete roof and floor. We have electricity and running water services, and the payment of these services are included in the rent. We live 5 minutes away from the feeding program. We are a humble family, and our frequent needs are groceries and clothes; please keep us in your prayers. I tell you that my mom helped me to give my information to LW evangelism team, and she brings me to the program. I say goodbye to you for now.
In Jesus name
Chavelo Elmer Adonias Osorio Vicente
