My Story

Duenas, where your child lives, is a small farming village located at the foot of one of Guatemala's active volcanoes, Fuego (Fire). The fertile ground around the village allows for the cultivation of roses and coffee, two of Guatemala's largest exports. Most of the families in this area live in one or two room wooden or adobe houses with tin roofs. Electricity is available to those who can afford it. Running water is available - however, most homes do not have indoor plumbing. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider education of value. Life in Duenas is quiet and sometimes difficult.

Hello! How are you? My name is Nestor Adrian Cordova Cabrera, and I was born on July 25, 2013; so now, I am 12 years old. I am in 5th grade this year, and in my free time, I like studying, playing soccer, walking and riding a bicycle. Thankfully, I am in good health. My favorite color is navy blue, and I love cats. I enjoy eating rice with red beans. I only have one sister, and she is also registered at the feeding program. Our house is located 15 minutes away from the program. At the moment, we are not attending a church.

My father’s name is Melvin Omar Cordova Gomez, and he works as a moto-taxi driver in our town. My mother’s name is Gladis Maribel Cabrera Gomez, and she is a housewife. My family and I live in my grandfather’s house, and we share it with two of my uncles. The house has two rooms, and we use one as a bedroom and one as a kitchen. It is made of concrete block with a tin sheet roof and concrete floor. It has running water and electricity services, and my parents pay for these bills. We are a humble family, and our frequent needs are groceries. We are asking God for a bed and a

wardrobe too. This is my information, and my mother helped me with it. I hope you find it interesting.

With much love

Nestor Adrian Cordova Cabrera
