My Story

Dueñas, where your child lives, is a small farming village located at the foot of one of Guatemala's active volcanoes, Fuego (Fire). The fertile ground around the village allows for the cultivation of roses and coffee, two of Guatemala's largest exports. Most of the families in this area live in one or two room wooden or adobe houses with tin roofs. Electricity is available to those who can afford it. Running water is available - however, most homes do not have indoor plumbing. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider education of value. Life in Dueñas is quiet and sometimes difficult.

Hello! I am very happy to share my information through this. My full name is Yenifer Alejandra Lopez Guaran. I was born on April 11th, 2017, in Antigua Guatemala, Sacatepequez, Guatemala. I am now 8 years old, and thanks to God, I am healthy. I attend 2nd grade at school this year. I love coloring in my free time. My favorite color is pink. The animal I like the most is the giraffe. I love eating sausages. I live with my parents and two sisters. I am very happy to be part of the Dueñas feeding program and I walk 5 minutes to get there. My father´s name is Luis Antonio Lopez Yol. He works in a PVC pipe company located in Santa Lucia village; he loads the pipes in the trucks. He provides for our family. My mother´s name is Maria Angelica Guaran Garcia. She is a housewife and takes care of my siblings and me.

Thankfully, my loved ones are doing well. We are members of the Catholic Church. The house in which we live belongs to my paternal grandfather and we share the house with him. There are five rooms made of concrete blocks, the roof is a cement, and we have a ceramic floor. The kitchen is separated. We have running water and electricity services; my parents contribute to pay for those services every month. As a family, our greatest needs are groceries, clothes and footwear. Well, this is all for now and I hope to hear news for you very soon. May God bless you abundantly!

Warm hugs,

Yenifer Alejandra Lopez Guaran
