My Story

Duenas, where your child lives, is a small farming village located at the foot of one of Guatemala's active volcanoes, Fuego (Fire). The fertile ground around the village allows for the cultivation of roses and coffee, two of Guatemala's largest exports. Most of the families in this area live in one or two room wooden or adobe houses with tin roofs. Electricity is available to those who can afford it. Running water is available - however, most homes do not have indoor plumbing. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider education of value. Life in Duenas is quiet and sometimes difficult.

I feel blessed to greet you through this letter. My name is Mia Alejandra Cordova Cabrera, and I want to share a little about my life with you. I was born on January 27, 2017. Thankfully, I am a healthy 8-year-old girl. I love playing basketball and soccer. I also like cooking. My favorite food is pizza, and I love cats. I am in second grade this year. My favorite color is light green. I am so happy because I have a lovely and healthy family. My father’s name is Melvin Omar Cordova Gomez. He makes a living as a motorcycle taxi driver in our town. On the other hand, my mom keeps busy doing the chores. Her name is Gladis Maribel Cabrera Gomez. About siblings, let me tell you that I only have one sister.

My family and I live with my grandfather at his house. My parents help him with the household expenses. Besides us, two of my uncles also live there. The house is made of concrete block with tin sheet roofs and concrete floors. Because of a lack of space, my family and I sleep and prepare our meals in one room. The house has two rooms, a separate kitchen, running water, and electricity. I beg you to pray for provision for my family. Unfortunately, we do not have enough economic resources to buy a new bed and a closet. The ones that we have now are in bad condition. The feeding program is about 15 minutes from where I live. My father usually takes me there on his motorcycle. We do not attend a church at the moment. Therefore, a member of the LW-evangelism team encouraged us to seek the Lord. It is time to say goodbye, but let me tell you that my mom helped me to give all this information to LW just for you. May God bless you! I hope to hear from you soon.

Special regards,

Mia Alejandra Cordova Cabrera
