My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value. Life in Quiché is always a challenge.

Hello! I am very happy to share my information through this. My name is Evelin Gricelda Tino Morente. I was born on November 2nd, 2020, in Joyabaj, Quiche, Guatemala. I am 4 years old, and thanks to God, I am healthy. I attend preschool this year. I like to play with my dolls and stuffed toys. My favorite color is pink and the animal I like the most is the chicken. I love eating boiled eggs with black beans. I live with my parents, one brother and one sister. Thankfully, my loved ones are doing well. I am very happy to be part of the feeding program and I walk 40 minutes to get there.

My father is Carlos Tino Ajqui. He mainly works as a farmer and day laborer and he provides for our home needs. My mother is Estela Morente Ruiz. She takes care of the house and raises hens for our food. We are members of the Pentecostal Prince of Peace Church. We were living in my paternal grandparents’ house, but thanks to God, my father built the house in which we live. We moved about two years ago. There is one adobe room, the roof is made of tin sheets and it has a dirt floor. The kitchen is separated. We do not have running water or electricity services. Fortunately, my grandparents share the services with us and my parents help to pay the expenses. As a family, our greatest needs are groceries and clothes. Thank you very much for reading my information. Every blessing for you!

Lots of love,

Evelin Gricelda Tino Morente
