My Story

Pasojoc is an area located high on the side of a mountain in the state of Quiche, Guatemala. Life in this area is very difficult and very isolated from the outside world. It is more than a two hour walk to the nearest market town of Zacualpa. Pasojoc is a farming area where corn and black beans, the staple elements in their diet, are the major corps. The Quiche Mayans who inhabit this area trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization. They normally speak a Mayan dialect called Quiche - however, Spanish is becoming more common. Very little money ever changes hands in this area as they live on a barter system.

It is a pleasure to share with you some information about Sheily Angelica Jimon Garcia, and her family. She was born on January 20th, 2015. She is 10 years old, and she attends 4th grade. She likes pink, her favorite animal is the cat, and the food she likes the most is noodles. She enjoys playing with her dolls in her free time, and about her health, she is stable; she has a lack of balance in her body, and she has developmental problems in her abilities and also speech problems. She has two brothers and three sisters, but she is the only one that attends the feeding program. Her mother goes with her because they walk one hour to be there.

Thankfully, Sheily’s parents are in good health; the father works both as a farmer and as a day laborer to cover their needs. The mother is a housewife, and she also raises hens to sel. Besides the hens, they also have turkeys at home. The family improves their income by selling herbs and onions at the market every Sunday. Some of their needs are groceries and corn, but they trust in God, and they have faith that God will help them to have the necessities. Fortunately, they attend Prince of Peace Church. This family lives in their own one-room house that is made of adobe with tin sheet roof and dirt floor; they have a separate kitchen. They share the water and its payment with a relative, and the electricity is shared with Sheily’s grandparents. This information was given to our Evangelism team by Sheily’s mother. She will be glad to hear from you soon.

Many Blessings,

Sheily Angelica Jimon Garcia
