My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiche, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years, electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value. Life in Quiche is always a challenge.

Hello! My full name is Paula Alejandra Perez de la Cruz and I am excited to share my information with you. I was born on December 19, 2017. I am 7 years old and I am enrolled in first grade. My favorite animals are ducks. I like the color pink and my favorite food is seafood soup. My favorite pastime is playing with my chicks. My family and I raise a few cows, pigs, ducks, and chickens at home. I live with my mother and grandparents on my mother’s side. I am an only child. My father does not live with us because he traveled to the United States about five years ago. His name is Nehemias Alejandro Perez Agustin. He paints houses to survive and help us economically. On the other hand, my mother sells some groceries to earn extra money. Her name is Carmen Antolina de la Cruz Hernandez. By the grace of the Lord, we are all healthy. We attend the Catholic Church in our village.

We live at my grandparent’s house. It is made of concrete blocks with a concrete roof and a ceramic floor. It has six rooms and a separate kitchen. My mom and I only use one room for us. Fortunately, there is electricity and running water at home. We pay for the electricity monthly and water annually. Please pray for my family and our needs. Our priorities are clothes and shoes. I feel so blessed to be part of LW-Adopt a Child. The feeding program is about 10 minutes from my house. I usually get there on foot with my cousins. This is all for now, but I appreciate you taking the time to read my letter. Have a nice day!

Special regards,

Paula Alejandra Perez de la Cruz
