My Story

Pasojoc is an area located high on the side of a mountain in the state of Quiche, Guatemala. Life in this area is very difficult and very isolated from the outside world. It is more than a two hour walk to the nearest market town of Zacualpa. Pasojoc is a farming area where corn and black beans, the staple elements in their diet, are the major corps. The Quiche Mayans who inhabit this area trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization. They normally speak a Mayan dialect called Quiche - however, Spanish is becoming more common. Very little money ever changes hands in this area as they live on a barter system.

What a blessing to be able to greet you by this means. I am so excited to let you know more about me. My name is Lucia Garcia Garcia. I am in good health. I was born on January 6, 2021, and I am 4 years old.  I am not attending school yet, so I stay at home and spend my time playing with my dolls. My favorite animal is the hen, I like pink, and the food I like to eat the most is fried chicken. I have two brothers and four sisters. Some of them are also registered at the feeding program, and we enjoy attending there; we walk three hours to arrive, and fortunately my big siblings look after me on the road.

Thankfully, my parents are in good health; my father works both as a farmer and as a day laborer. My mother is a housewife, but she also raises domestic animals; at home we have hens and a cow. My parents travel to the coast to pick coffee beans to improve our income; they usually go from November to February. Right now, they are still there, and while they are there, my aunt Lucia takes care of us because she lives in our house. Fortunately, we live in our own house that is made of adobe, with a tile roof and a dirt floor; it has two rooms, a separate kitchen, and running water. We do not have electricity, so we use candles at night; this is one of our needs, and we pray to God, and we trust that He will help us to have electricity at home someday. We are a Christian family, and we attend Triune God Church. It was so nice to send you this letter, and I want you to know that my aunt Lucia, gave this information to the Evangelism team for my enrollment process.

Many Blessings,

Lucia Garcia Garcia
