Cuatro Caminos
Guatemala
Child
Cuatro Caminos "four roads", where your child lives, is an area located high on the side of a mountain in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this area is very difficult and very isolated from the outside world. It is a two hour walk to the nearest market town of Zacualpa. Cuatro Caminos is a farming area where corn and black beans, the staple elements in their diet, are the major crops. The Quiche Mayans who inhabit this area trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization. They normally speak a Mayan dialect called Quiché - however, Spanish is becoming more common. Very little money ever changes hands in this area as they live on a barter system.
Hello, my name is Lester Daniel Garcia de la Cruz, and I want to introduce myself. I was born on January 24, 2016, so I am 8 years old. I am in good health, and I enjoy playing with my toy cars in my free time. I am in 2nd grade this year. I love red, and my favorite animal is the cat. I really enjoy eating fried chicken. I have two brothers and one sister, and two of them are registered at the feeding program too. I live with my parents, and their names are Santos Garcia Pastor and Cecilia de la Cruz Ruiz; they are in good health. My father works as a farmer and day laborer while my mother works hard at home, and sometimes does the laundry of others to get some money.
My family and I attend Prince of Peace Church, and I would like to ask for your prayers for us and our daily needs; we are frequently in need of groceries, clothes and shoes. We live in a house that belongs to my dad, and it has one room and one kitchen. The house is made of wood with a tin sheet roof and dirt floor. We use candles and flashlights at night since we do not have electricity service. We do not have running water either, so we use a hose to bring water from a spring to our home. We have hens, pigs, a dog and a cat as domestic animals. I walk for 1 hour and 15 minutes to arrive at the feeding program, and I am happy to be part of it. My aunt, Candelaria, helped me to give my information to the Evangelism team. I say goodbye to you for now.
Sincerely yours
Lester Daniel Garcia de la Cruz
