My Story

Cuatro Caminos "four roads", where your child lives, is an area located high on the side of a mountain in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this area is very difficult and very isolated from the outside world. It is a two hour walk to the nearest market town of Zacualpa. Cuatro Caminos is a farming area where corn and black beans, the staple elements in their diet, are the major crops. The Quiche Mayans who inhabit this area trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization. They normally speak a Mayan dialect called Quiché - however, Spanish is becoming more common. Very little money ever changes hands in this area as they live on a barter system.

Hello, my name is Marvin Agustin Grave Morente, and I want to introduce myself. I was born on October 4, 2019, so I am 5 years old. I am in good health, and I enjoy playing soccer and with my toy cars in my free time. I do not attend school yet due to my age. I love green, and my favorite animal is the chick. I really enjoy eating fried chicken. I have one brother, and he is registered at the feeding program too. I live with my parents, and their names are Agustin Grave de la Cruz and Antonia Morente Luis; they are in good health. My father works as a farmer, and he also goes to pick coffee beans and cut sugar cane at the coast for some months. My mother works hard at home and weaves typical clothes for selling.

My family and I attend the Catholic Church, and I would like to ask for your prayers for us and our daily needs. We live in a house that belongs to one of my aunts, and we share it with my aunt Encarnacion and her children. It has three rooms and one kitchen, and it is made of tin sheets with a concrete floor. We have electricity service, and we get water from a spring. We have hens, sheep and pigs as domestic animals. I walk for 10 minutes to arrive at the feeding program, and I am happy to be part of it. My mother helped me to give my information to the Evangelism team. I say goodbye to you for now.

With much love
