My Story

Cuatro Caminos "four roads", where your child lives, is an area located high on the side of a mountain in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this area is very difficult and very isolated from the outside world. It is a two hour walk to the nearest market town of Zacualpa. Cuatro Caminos is a farming area where corn and black beans, the staple elements in their diet, are the major crops. The Quiche Mayans who inhabit this area trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization. They normally speak a Mayan dialect called Quiché - however, Spanish is becoming more common. Very little money ever changes hands in this area as they live on a barter system.

Hello, my name is Wendy Melisa Garcia Morente, and I want to introduce myself. I was born on March 22, 2020, so I am 4 years old. I am in good health, and I enjoy playing with my dolls and toy dishes. I do not attend school yet due to my age. I love pink, and my favorite animal is the cat. I really enjoy eating fried chicken. I have one brother and one sister. I live with my parents, and their names are Pedro Garcia de la Cruz and Teresa Morente Ajqui; they are in good health. My father is a day laborer, and he mostly works in the coffee plantations at the coast since he does not have a stable job in our village. My mother is a housewife, and she raises hens for selling and improving the income.

My family and I attend Prince of Peace Church, and I would like to ask for your prayers for us since we are in need of groceries and clothes. We live with my maternal grandparents, and we share the house with their children. The house has three rooms and one kitchen, and the rooms are made of adobe with a tile roof and dirt floor.  We do not have running water and electricity services. We use candles at night, and we get the water from a stream. We have hens at home. I walk for 30 minutes to arrive at the feeding program, and I am happy to be part of it. My mother helped me to give my information to the Evangelism team, and she also accompanies me to the program. I say goodbye to you for now.

With much love

Wendy Melisa Garcia Morente
