My Story

Tunajá is a very primitive area of the state of Quiché, Guatemala.  The inhabitants are Quiché Indians who trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization.  The prevalent language is the Indian dialect - Quiché.  The people are either farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors.  Very little money ever changes hands as they use a barter system. Public education is available - however, most families cannot afford it.  Electricity and running water are not available in most of the area.  Life in Tunajá is extremely difficult.

Hello, my name is Felipe Yordany Garcia Gonzalez. I feel very excited to introduce myself to you, so you can know me better. First, I want you to know that my mother gave all this information to the LW team to share with you. I am 4 years old. I was born on August 31, 2020. I am a healthy boy thanks to God. I do not attend school yet. I like playing with toy cars. My favorite dish is rice and sausages. I like blue, and my favorite pet is the dog. I have two brothers and two sisters. They are registered in the feeding program. We walk for 15 minutes to be in the program.

Our house belongs to my paternal grandfather. Thankfully, we do not pay any rent, since we just share the house. It has three rooms including the separate kitchen. It is made of adobe, tin sheet roof and cement floor. There are electricity and running water services that my father and grandfather pay. Our domestic animals are 6 chickens, 1 pig, 1 cat and two dogs. My parents´ names are Juan Carlos Garcia Coj and Josefa Gonzalez Xorxe. My father works as a farmer and travels to the coast at the end of the year to cut coffee beans. On the other hand, my mother takes care of us and the house. She also raises the domestic animals for selling. None of us, travel with my father to the coast. Our greatest necessities as a family are corn and groceries. We attend the Prince of Peace Church.
