My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiche, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value.  Life in Quiche is always a challenge

My name is Marta Emelin de la Cruz Us and I want to tell you a little about my life. I was born on March 24th, 2017, so I am 7 seven years old. I attend school and I am in 1st. grade.  I love pink and ducks. I like playing with dolls in my free time. I want to tell you that my favorite food is the beans with eggs and cheese. As a family we attend a Chirstian Church. Thanks to God, we are in good health. My father´s name is Martin Eliseo de la Cruz Aguilar. He is a mason’s helper and covers our expenses. My mother´s name is Maria Us Morente. She works at home weaving typical blouses from the Chichicastenango department. She helps economically at home too. My parents make their best effort to cover our needs. We live in my paternal grandparents´ house, and we share our expenses with them. The house has two rooms, but we use one of them. It has a separate kitchen. It is made of block walls, tin sheet roof and concrete floor.  Thankfully, we have running water and electricity services. We have hens and pigs as domestic animals. We are a humble family, and our greatest need is groceries. I walk for twenty minutes to arrive at the feeding program. I tell you that my mom helped me to give this information to an Evangelism teacher, and I am happy to be part of this Ministry.  I thank you for reading my information.

Kisses and hugs,

Marta Emelin de la Cruz Us
