My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiche, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value.  Life in Quiche is always a challenge.

It is a pleasure to introduce myself through this letter. My name is Ana Alicia Gonzalez Sincu. I was born on April 11, 2012. I am 12 years old, and I am in 6th grade at school. One of my hobbies is reading. I like cats and the color purple About meals, let me tell you I love fried fish. I live with my biological parents. They are Tomas Gonzalez and Manuela Sincu Tirquiz. We are a low incomes family so my parents struggle every day working as day laborers. They earn 35.00Q = 4.53$ per day. I am in good health but my parents are not well. My father suffers from pain in his body and in his head. My mother suffers from pain in her ears. We live in my mother´s house. It is in bad condition. We ask for your prayers because our big need is repairing the walls of our home because our walls have cracked.  It has two rooms and a separate kitchen. It is made of adobe walls, tin sheet roof and concrete and dirt floor. We have running water and my parents pay 300.00Q = 38.84 $ for each year. We also have electricity, and my parents pay 200Q = 25.90 $ per month. We raise pigs, turkeys and hens. Our house is twenty minutes away from the feeding program. We get there in a tuk- tuk. Many blessings!

Kisses and hugs,

Ana Alicia Gonzalez Sincu
