Zacualpa is a small but busy village in a mountain valley. The village is inhabited by both Quiché Indians and Ladinos (those with mixed European ancestry). The prevalent language is Spanish. Families in this village live in one or two room homes generally constructed of either wood or adobe. Although many of the people are farmers, the village contains several small, specialized stores, a body repair shop for buses, mechanics, plumbers and many other smalltown tradesmen. It also has a large open-air market which serves much of the area. Even with all of this, the poverty level is very high, and the children are very needy.
Hello, I am Mayely Alessandra Ponjoj Lux. I am so happy to greet you today and bless you in the name of Jesus. I would like to tell you about me. I was born on October 17, 2020. I am 4 years old. I am too young to attend school now. I spend my time playing with dolls and toy dishes. I am a healthy girl. My favorite color is purple, and my favorite animal is the fish. I love eating fried chicken. I just have one sister called Astrid. She is part of the feeding program also. My mother takes us to the program. We take a bus for 25 minutes to arrive.
My father´s name is Hugo Leonel Panjoj Leon. He used to live in The United States, but he returned to Guatemala 3 months ago. He stays just a few days with our family, and then he went to work in Guatemala City where he is living now. He is working there as a mechanic. He will come to visit our family every 6 months. He calls our family every day. My mother´s name is Maria Veronica Lux Gutierrez. She does the hard housework and takes care of us. Thank God, they are all healthy. We live in my paternal aunt´s house with her family. The house has 6 rooms, and we use just one room. Theres is also a separate kitchen that we share. It is made of adobe, tile roof and cemented floor. There is a natural water source on the property. We have electricity that my parents and aunt take turns paying every month. Chickens are the only domestic animals at home. Our greatest necessities as a family are food and clothes. Well, this is all for now. Thank you for your attention. I just want to add that my mother gave all this information to the LW team. I look forward to keeping in touch with you. May God bless you today and always!
With love,
Mayely Alessandra Panjoj Lux
