My Story

Pasojoc is an area located high on the side of a mountain in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this area is very difficult and very isolated from the outside world. It is more than a two-hour walk to the nearest market town of Zacualpa. Pasojoc is a farming area where corn and black beans, the staple elements in their diet, are the major crops. The Quiche Mayans who inhabit this area trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization. They normally speak a Mayan dialect called Quiche - however, Spanish is becoming more common. Very little money ever changes hands in this area as they live on a barter system.

Hello! How are you? I am Jaiden Dario Sut de la Cruz, and I am writing this letter just for you. I am 5 years old, and I was born on November 15, 2018. I am in good health, and I am attending pre-kindergarten this year. I like playing toy cars and coloring my drawings. I love blue, and my favorite animal is the turkey. I enjoy eating fried chicken. I only have one sister. My parents’ names are Alvaro Ruben Sut Portuguez and Petrona de la Cruz de la Cruz. My dad has been in the United States for three years, and he is now working on a farm feeding the cows. He calls us every two days and faithfully sends money for our needs. My mom works hard at home and embroiders napkins to help with the income. She helped me to give all this information to the Evangelism team.

My family and I attend Spring of Life Church. We live in a house that belongs to my dad. It has two rooms and a kitchen, and it is made of adobe with a tin sheet roof and dirt floor. We have electricity service, and my dad sends money to pay it every month. We do not have running water, so we use a hose to get it from a nearby spring. We have domestic animals like hens and pigs. I would like to ask for your prayers for us since we need groceries. I walk for one hour to arrive to the feeding program. Well, I say goodbye to you for now hoping you find my letter interesting.

Kisses and hugs
