Zacualpa is a small but busy village in a mountain valley. Both Quiche Mayans and Ladinos (those with mixed European ancestry) inhabit the village. The prevalent language is Spanish. Families in this village live in one or two room homes usually constructed of either wood or adobe. Although many of the people are farmers, the village contains several small and specialized stores, a body repair shop for buses, mechanics, plumbers, and many other small-town tradesmen. It also has a large open-air market which serves much of the area. Even with all of this, the poverty level is extremely high, and the children are very needy.
Hello! My full name is Deymi Coreima Choc Ixtos, and it is a pleasure to share a little about my life with you. I was born on February 8, 2020, so I am 4 years old. Fortunately, I am in good health. I do not attend school because of my age, so I stay home. I enjoy playing with my dolls and my favorite color is blue. My favorite domestic animal is the dog and I love eating vegetable soup. Now, I will tell you about my family. I only have one brother, but no sisters. My father is Sebastian Choc Tiul. He traveled to the United States about two years ago. Currently, he is doing well and works in construction to survive and help us economically. My mother is Juana Maria Ixtos Garcia. Like many housewives, she keeps busy with the housework and taking care of my brother and me.
My maternal grandparents own the house where my family and I live. It is made of concrete block with a tin sheet roof and granite floor. It has one room, a separate kitchen, electricity, and running water. We help with the household expenses. We are members of the Prince of Peace Church. We do not raise domestic animals as many other families do because of a lack of space at home. The feeding program is a 10-minute walk from where I live. I am grateful to be part of the project because it is a great blessing to have warm food for free. Most of my family's needs are groceries, so please pray for us. To end my story, I want you to know that my mom helped me to give all this information to a teacher of the LW evangelism team. Have a fantastic day!
Sincerely yours,
Deymi Coreima Choc Ixtos
