My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small, attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years, electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value.  Life in Quiché is always a challenge.

I cordially greet you with gratitude for giving me the opportunity to share a little bit of myself through this letter. My name is Miguel Byron Adan Tiniguar Tiniguar. I was born on September 27, 2019. I do not attend school this year due to my young age. I enjoy playing toy cars. My favorite color is blue, and the animal that I like the most is the horse. I love to eat black beans with sausage. I live with my family. My father is Jose Aroldo Tiniguar Lares. He earns a living working as a farmer. My mother is Tomasa Tiniguar Aguilar. She works sewing typical blouses, and in this way, she helps to cover our expenses. She also raises hens to earn a little money. I would like to ask for your prayers because my mother suffers from her ears. She has visited the doctor and is under medical treatment. As a family, we attend a Christian church called “Sovereign King”.  I have one sister but she still does not attend the feeding program.

We share a house with my paternal grandmother, and she lets us live in her house. There are two rooms made of adobe walls, tin sheet roof, dirt floor and a separate kitchen. We have running water and electricity. My parents help to pay these services. Our main needs are groceries. My mother helped me to give my information. I say goodbye for now and I hope to hear from you soon.

With much love

Miguel Byron Adan Tiniguar Tiniguar
