My Story

Zacualpa is a small but busy village in a mountain valley. Both Quiche Mayans and Ladinos (those with mixed European ancestry) inhabit the village. The prevalent language is Spanish. Families in this village live in one or two room homes usually constructed of either wood or adobe. Although many of the people are farmers, the village contains several small and specialized stores, a body repair shop for buses, mechanics, plumbers, and many other small-town tradesmen. It also has a large open-air market which serves much of the area. Even with all of this, the poverty level is extremely high, and the children are very needy.

Hello! My name is Khiara Elimarys Tino Garcia, and it is a pleasure to introduce myself. I hope you like my information. I was born on September 1, 2017, so now I am 7 years old. Fortunately, I am in good health. I am in kindergarten and my favorite pastime is painting. My favorite color is yellow. I like cats and my favorite food is roasted beef. I attend Mount Sinai Christian Church with my family. I only have one brother. My father is Josue Abraham Tino Gomez, and he makes a living by carrying people from one place to another in his tuk-tuk. He does his best to provide us with all that we need, but it is sometimes difficult because he does not earn enough. Our greatest needs are groceries and corn. On the other hand, my mom dedicates her full time to taking care of our family. Her name is Geidy Elisa Garcia Morente.

My family and I live in our own house which is made of adobe, a tin sheet roof, and concrete floor. It only has two rooms, so we use one room as a bedroom and the other one as a kitchen. Fortunately, we also have electricity and running water services. As for domestic animals, let me tell you that we only have chickens. We live a little far from the feeding program. My parents take my brother and me in a tuk-tuk to get to the feeding program. The trip takes us about fifteen minutes from our house. I say goodbye to you now, but I want you to know that my mom and I gave all this information to a teacher of the LW evangelism team so you could hear from me. Take care of yourself!

Many kisses and hugs,

Khiara Elimarys Tino Garcia
