Dueñas
Guatemala
Child
Dueñas, where your child lives, is a small farming village located at the foot of one of Guatemala's active volcanoes, Fuego (Fire). The fertile ground around the village allows for the cultivation of roses and coffee, two of Guatemala's largest exports. Most of the families in this area live in one or two room wooden or adobe houses with tin roofs. Electricity is available to those who can afford it. Running water is available - however, most homes do not have indoor plumbing. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider education of value. Life in Dueñas is quiet and sometimes difficult.
Hello! My full name is Ingrid Florencia Lopez Cahuec, and it is a great pleasure to write this letter to you. By the grace of the Lord, I am a healthy 13-year-old girl. I was born on June 17, 2011. My favorite pastime is playing soccer with my friends. My favorite color is green, I love beef steak, and my favorite animals are lions. Before telling you more about my life and family, I want you to know that I am excited to be part of the feeding program. I usually walk twenty minutes from my house to get there.
I have three brothers and two sisters. I am the youngest child in my family. My mom is Ingrid Amparo Cahuec Ostiaga. She works as a domestic employee to support our family economically. As for my father, let me tell you that he separated from my mom about four years ago. He is not in touch with us but helps me a little economically. His name is Hugo Rene Lopez. My mom and I live in a rented house. The rent payment is Q900=$116.39 monthly. My older siblings do not live with us, but they help us to cover that bill. The house is made of concrete block walls, tin sheet roofs, and concrete floors. It has one room, a separate kitchen, electricity, and running water. I will leave you now, but I would appreciate to count on your prayers for me so I can continue studying. May the Lord reward your prayers and kindness!
Sincerely yours,
Ingrid Florencia Lopez Cahuec
