My Story

Dueñas, where your child lives, is a small farming village located at the foot of one of Guatemala's active volcanoes, Fuego (Fire). The fertile ground around the village allows for the cultivation of roses and coffee, two of Guatemala's largest exports. Most of the families in this area live in one or two room wooden or adobe houses with tin roofs. Electricity is available to those who can afford it. Running water is available - however, most homes do not have indoor plumbing. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider education of value. Life in Dueñas is quiet and sometimes difficult.

I am delighted to greet you through this letter. My full name is Gerson Elizandro Osorio Tuy, and I am 7 years old. Before telling you more about my life, I want you to know that I appreciate you for taking the time to read my information. I was born on January 5, 2017. My favorite pastimes are playing soccer with my friends. There are a lot of beautiful animals, but my favorites are penguins. I have one dog and one cat at home as pets. I really enjoy playing with them. Fortunately, I am doing well at school as a first grader. Now, let me tell you that I have a lovely family. Thankfully, we are all in good health. My father is Gerson Willian Osorio Carias. He works as a farmer in a coffee farm called Villa Maria. On the other hand, my mom keeps busy with the housework and looking after my siblings and me. I have two older brothers; I am the youngest child in my family.

We live in a concrete block house with tin sheet roofs and concrete floors. My father is the owner of the house. Our home has two rooms and a separate kitchen with electricity and running water services. I am glad because I can attend the feeding program to enjoy delicious meals alongside my brothers. We live a ten-minute walk from the project. As for our spiritual life, let me tell you that we do not attend any church at the moment. I will leave you now, but I hope you have a great day.

Sincerely yours,

Gerson Elizandro Osorio Tuy
