My Story

Dueñas, where your child lives, is a small farming village located at the foot of one of Guatemala's active volcanoes, Fuego (Fire). The fertile ground around the village allows for the cultivation of roses and coffee, two of Guatemala's largest exports. Most of the families in this area live in one or two room wooden or adobe houses with tin roofs. Electricity is available to those who can afford it. Running water is available - however, most homes do not have indoor plumbing. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider education of value. Life in Dueñas is quiet and sometimes difficult.

My full name is Angel Samuel Marroquin Mejia, and it is a great pleasure to greet you through this letter. Thankfully, I am a healthy 7-year-old boy. I was born on March 20, 2017. I am glad because I am doing well at school as a first grader. The activities that I enjoy doing the most are painting and drawing. My favorite color is green. The people who I live with are my parents, two brothers, and one sister. I am the youngest child in my family. My father is Santos Ines Marroquin Calan. He is healthy and works hard as a farmer at La Primavera farm. That farm is on the way to Alotenango town. My mom also does her best to contribute at home with her income. Her name is Dora Leticia Mejia Quexel, and she is also healthy. She works as a domestic employee three times a week. My family and I love cats, so we have three lovely ones at home as pets.

Fortunately, my family and I live in our own house. We have electricity and running water services; my parents pay them monthly. Our house is made of concrete block walls, tin sheet roofs, and concrete floors. Our home has three rooms and a separate kitchen. Taking advantage of this opportunity, I ask you to pray for the well-being of my family. We trust in God and do our best to persevere at LW Liberty Church. I am glad because I am already part of LW-Adopt A Child. This project has been a great blessing for my family! To get to the feeding program, I usually walk for ten minutes alongside my siblings. I will say goodbye to you now, but I look forward to hearing about your life soon. Take care of yourself!

Kind regards,

Angel Samuel Marroquin Mejia
