My Story

Jocotenango, where your child lives, is in the state of Sacatepéquez, Guatemala and is a suburb of Antigua. It is an urban environment and is inhabited by both Quiché Indians and Ladinos (those with mixed European ancestry). Most of the children attend school, but financial hardship affects many families and forces most of the children to leave after the sixth grade. Only one out of ten children finish high school. Children in this area face temptations from gangs and drugs.

Hello! My name is Angel Matias Chamorro Cardona. I was born in Antigua Guatemala on October 6th of 2020, and I am already 4 years old. Due to my young age, I am still not attending school. At the moment, I enjoy playing football. My favorite food is black beans with rice. The color I love the most is blue. I love dogs. Our pets are 16 turtles. My father´s name is Luis Miguel Chamorro Golon. He makes a living by driving a tuk-tuk to sustain our family needs. My mother´s name is Delmy Idalia Cardona Perez. She does the housework and takes care of my siblings and me. I have two siblings, one boy and one girl; thank God, we all are fine.

As a family, we are members of the House of Prayer Church. We live in a piece of land that my mother inherited from my grandmother. We have only one room and share the running water and electricity services with my grandma. So, my parents contribute to pay the bill every month. We sleep and cook in the same room. The room is made a part of rustic wooden planks and one part of tin sheets, a tin sheet roof and a cement floor. I am so happy attending the feeding program; I get there in about 30 minutes by bus. I want you to include my family in your prayers to stay well and for provision for us. For the time being that is all. May God bless you!

Huge hugs,

Angel Matias Chamorro Cardona
