My Story

Pasojoc is an area located high on the side of a mountain in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this area is very difficult and very isolated from the outside world. It is more than a two-hour walk to the nearest market town of Zacualpa. Pasojoc is a farming area where corn and black beans, the staple elements in their diet, are the major corps. The Quiché Mayans who inhabit this area trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization. They normally speak a Mayan dialect called Quiché - however, Spanish is becoming more common. Very little money ever changes hands in this area as they live on a barter system.

Hello, my name is Bryan Javier Wilmer Hernandez Morente. I was born on March 23, 2019 in Zacualpa, Quiche, and I am 4 years old. I am a healthy boy. I am not enrolled at school due to my young age. I enjoy playing toy cars at home. I love the color red, and I like hens. My favorite food is fried chicken. I have two brothers and two sisters and two of them are part of the Feeding Program, and we walk to the program in forty minutes. We are not attending any church. I am under the care of my parents.

My father’s name is Jesus Hernandez.  Currently, he works as a farmer and day laborer. He goes to the coast to pick coffee beans, and he supports the family financially. Unfortunately, it is difficult for him to work because he suffers from gastritis and his nervous system. Fortunately, he visited the doctor and was taking natural medicine, but the treatment is expensive, so he cannot continue buying the medication.  My mother’s name is Estela Morente Tzoy, and she contributes to our necessities by raising hens and turkeys to sell. One of my older brothers is working as a farmer in order to cover our home expenses. We live in our own house, which has one room and one separated kitchen. Our house is made of adobe, tin sheet roof and dirt floors. We have electricity, and we get the water from a natural spring that we have.  My father pays the electricity services every month. We have some hens and turkeys at home, and we would like to have some chickens. Our current needs are groceries and clothes. This is my personal information, and I hope you find it interesting. I want to let you know that my mother gave this information to LW evangelism team. I hope you enjoy reading it.  May God bless you and protect you!

Huge hugs,

Bryan Javier Wilmer Hernandez Morente
