My Story

Pasojoc is an area located high on the side of a mountain in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this area is very difficult and very isolated from the outside world. It is more than a two-hour walk to the nearest market town of Zacualpa. Pasojoc is a farming area where corn and black beans, the staple elements in their diet, are the major corps. The Quiché Mayans who inhabit this area trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization. They normally speak a Mayan dialect called Quiché - however, Spanish is becoming more common. Very little money ever changes hands in this area as they live on a barter system.

Hello, my name is Juan Carlos Jimon Pu. I was born on January 01, 2018, in Zacualpa, Quiche, and I am 5 years old. I am a healthy boy, but I want to let you know that now I have recovered from a stomach infection 3 months ago due to some parasites called amoebas and I am not taking medicine. I do not have enrolled at school yet due to my young age. I enjoy playing football at home. I love the color blue, and I like cows. My favorite food is eggs. I have six brothers and one sister and five of them are part of the Feeding Program. I walk about thirty minutes to get to the feeding program. We attend the Catholic Church. I am under the care of my parents.

My father’s name is Victor Jimon Ajqui.  Currently. He works as a farmer, and he goes to the coast to pick coffee beans during the harvest. He comes to our house once a month to visit us. My mother’s name is Ana Pu Morales, and she is a housewife and takes care of the family. We live in our own house, which has two rooms and one separated kitchen. Our house is made of adobe, tin sheet roof and dirt floors. We do not have electricity, and we use lanterns and candles. Also, we get water from the nearby river connecting a hose. We have some hens at home and we would like to have some chickens. Our current needs are groceries and corn. This is my personal information, and I hope you find it interesting. I want to let you know that my mother gave this information to LW evangelism team. I hope you like to read it.  May God bless you greatly!

Warm regards,

Juan Carlos Jimon Pu
