My Story

Chuchuca, where your child lives, is an area located high on the side of a mountain in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this area is very difficult and very isolated from the outside world. It is more than a two-hour walk to the nearest market town of Zacualpa. Chuchuca is a farming area where corn and black beans, the staple elements in their diet, are the major crops. The Quiché Mayans who inhabit this area trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization. They normally speak a Mayan dialect called Quiché - however, Spanish is becoming more common. Very little money ever changes hands in this area as they live on a barter system.

Hello! My name is Mayorin Fabiana Garcia Garcia. I was born on Oct 8, 2019, and I am 4 years old. I am still not attending school because of my young age. I love cats, and my favorite color is sky blue. The meal I love is fried chicken. I like to play with my dolls and toy dishes with my sister. I have one brother and one sister. I am in good health and as well my family. My mother´s name is Catarina Garcia Garcia. She struggles to support my siblings and me; she weaves and embroiders typical blouses to sell and get income. Furthermore, she raises hens, ducks, and turkeys to sell. My father´s name is Isaias De la Cruz Hernandez. However, he did not legally recognize me and abandoned us. Then, he left for the United States, nowadays, he keeps in touch with my siblings and me and sends a little support every two or three months, but it is not too much.

We are a Catholic family. We do not have our own house, and fortunately, one uncle has loaned his house. There are also living my grandparents and uncles. There are two adobe rooms with tile roof and a cement floor. We have running water, but no electricity; one of our relatives share electricity and my mother contributes to pay for it. We are a humble and needy family, our main needs are groceries, corn, and a place to live quietly. I walk about 10 minutes to get to the feeding program. This time the Living Water staff collected this information personally for the record, and my mother Catarina Garcia provided it. With much love. Many and abundant blessings on you!

Kisses and hugs,

Mayorin Fabiana Garcia Garcia
