My Story

Chuchuca, where your child lives, is an area located high on the side of a mountain in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this area is very difficult and very isolated from the outside world. It is more than a two-hour walk to the nearest market town of Zacualpa. Chuchuca is a farming area where corn and black beans, the staple elements in their diet, are the major crops. The Quiché Mayans who inhabit this area trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization. They normally speak a Mayan dialect called Quiché - however, Spanish is becoming more common. Very little money ever changes hands in this area as they live on a barter system.

Hello! My name is Irma Chingo Lux. I was born on October 26th, 2017, and I am 6 years old. I am still not attending school this year, probably next year. For now, I spend my time by playing with my dolls. I love dogs and the color I like the most is red. Rice is my favorite meal. I live with my parents, five brother, and one sister. Thank God, we are healthy, except for my father who has vices. Please pray for my family because we suffer seeing my father, destroying by himself. My mother´s name is Juana Lux Pastor. She is a housewife and raises hens to sell and supply our home expenses; she does her best for our family. My father´s name is Vicente Chingo Ajqui. Sadly, he drinks alcohol, consumes drugs and does not support us in any way.

We attend the Catholic Church. The house in which we live belongs to my maternal grandmother Pabla Pastor. There are two rooms and a separate kitchen. One room is made of wood with a tin sheet roof, and the other is made of adobe with tin sheet roof. Both are with a dirt floor. We have running water, but no electricity, so we use lamps and candles to get light. For now, our primary needs are food and clothes. I walk 10-minutes to get to the feeding program. This time the Living Water staff collected this information personally for the record, and my mother Juana Lux provided it. Be safe. Many and abundant blessings on you!

Huge hugs,

Irma Chingo Lux
