My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small, attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value.  Life in Quiché is always a challenge.

Hello! My name is Patrocinia Gricelda Gutierrez Nas, and I am writing this small letter to tell you about me. I was born on February 14, 2015, so I am 8 years old now. I am in good health, and I am in 2nd grade this year. I enjoy playing with my dolls in my free time. I like the color pink, and my favorite animal is the duck. I love eating French fries. I have one brother and two sisters; two of them are part of the feeding program too. My father is Manuel Gutierrez Zetino, and he is in the United States. My parents are separated, and my dad only sends us money three times a year; he only sometimes has communication with us. My mother, Maria Nas Gonzalez, embroiders blouses and raises domestic animals to cover our needs. She sometimes receives some economic support from her youngest brother, Anibal Nas. My family and I are attending Ebenezer Methodist Church.

We live in our own house, and it only has one room; we cook in a small room made of tin sheets. The house is made of adobe with a tile roof and concrete floor. We have running water, but my grandmother provides us with the electricity service; my mom helps to pay this bill. We have hens and pigs as domestic animals. We are a humble family, and our frequent needs are groceries and clothes. I walk for one hour to arrive at the feeding program. I tell you that my mom helped me to give this information to LW Evangelism team, and I am happy to be part of this Ministry. I hope you find my information interesting.

With much love
