My Story

My name is Samuel, and I greet you excitedly, hoping you are having a fantastic day. My family and I attend the Prince of Peace Church on Saturdays. We are sure Jesus is our Savior. I appreciate the kind words of encouragement that a teacher of the LW evangelism team gave to my mother, Maria Garcia, to continue growing spiritually. The teacher also asked for my mother’s help to collect my information to let you know about it. I am glad to be part of the feeding program. It is a crucial project where many children like to receive delicious food. My mother is 30 years old. She is a hardworking housewife, although she has been sick lately. She suffers from an infection in her stomach. She is under medical treatment, but she has not felt better. Therefore, I would like to count on your prayers for her. My father, Andres Hernandez, is 34 years old. Luckily, his health condition is good. He makes a living as a farmer and travels to the coast to cut sugar cane.

We work hard at home by raising hens and growing corn for our consumption. However, our crops are not enough to feed our big family. We need groceries at home, especially corn. I am one of the youngest children of my family. I turned ten years old in March. My family and I usually do not celebrate birthdays because of a lack of money. As for health, I want you to know that I suffer from headaches. My mother took me to the LW clinics and now, I am under medical treatment. I attend school as a third grader. I think it is better to attend face-to-face classes because I learn more than studying at home alone. My father does his best for our family. However, he has trouble covering my school equipment because of money. There are many things that I would love to do when I am older. Some of them are to work in a grocery store and learn how to speak English. Christmas is my favorite holiday. What I love the most is eating a delicious meal with my family to celebrate that lovely time. I love drinking atol de masa (a typical hot beverage made of corn dough, sugar, cinnamon, and water). There are many sports, but I like soccer. I say goodbye to you for now, but thanks so much for taking the time to read my letter.

From the bottom of my heart,

Samuel Elias Hernandez Garcia
