My Story

Hello! How are you? I hope you are fine. I am Nelson, and I am writing you this small letter to tell you about my family and me. I live with my parents in a village called Turbala II. My dad is 37 years old, and he works as a day laborer and mason’s helper to cover our needs. My mom is 30 years old, and she dedicates her time to the family and home. They both are healthy. We raise hens and grow some corn for the family consumption. The income is not much, so we are frequently in need of groceries like corn. We are attending Prince of Peace Church, and we have services on Monday and Saturday. We believe in God who is our personal Savior.

My full name is Nelson Francisco Antonio de la Cruz Garcia. I am fine and in good health. I am 11 years old, and I am repeating 3^rd grade. I am learning many things and we are attending school in person. My parents have been economically affected because they have had to cover my school expenses. I want to improve my Spanish since I speak Quiche dialect as my first language. I love Christmas time because we prepare the traditional “tamales” and we share them with our family. “Atol de mosh” is a typical hot beverage made from oat, cinnamon and milk, and I like drinking it. I do not have the custom to celebrate my birthday due to our low resources. My favorite sport is soccer. It is a great support for me to receive lunches and presents at the feeding program.
