My Story

This is Edy, and I cordially greet you through this letter. I am still a member of the Prince of Peace Church. My family and I usually attend it on Mondays and Wednesdays. We praise the Lord because my siblings and I receive delicious food thanks to you and the feeding program. Besides that, the staff encouraged our family through her to continue trusting in our salvation. They also spoke with my mother to get this information for you. My father is Carlos Ruiz, and he is 35 years old. He makes a living as a gardener in Zacualpa town and grows corn for our consumption. My mother is Irma Calachij, and she is 34 years old. She contributes with her income to cover other needs by washing other people’s clothes in our community. We have some hens and dogs at home. Thankfully, our health is in good condition.

I turned fourteen years old in March. I could not celebrate my birthday because of a lack of money. Nowadays, I am in sixth grade. I prefer to receive face-to-face classes because it helps me to understand how to do my homework; it is sometimes hard for me. I am a Quiche native speaker. I also know a little Spanish, so I hope to improve my knowledge and speak that language fluently soon. Our economic situation is poor, so it is difficult for my father to buy food, uniforms, and school supplies. Therefore, I would like to count on your prayers for my family and me. Working in the field catches my attention, so I hope to become a good farmer when I am older. My favorite holiday is Christmas because I have fun burning firecrackers. My favorite drink is “mosh” (a typical hot beverage made of oatmeal, cinnamon, and sugar), and I like soccer. Thank you so much for reading my update! I say goodbye to you for now, but I hope to hear how you are doing.

Kind regards,

Edy Yeison Ruiz Calachij
