My Story

I am so excited to greet you by this letter and I hope you are receiving many blessings from our God. My name is Ashly Yojana Toledo Jerez. I am fifteen years old. I have three siblings. My mother and father live with me. My mother is a housewife and goes to harvest coffee during the right seasons. My father works as a day laborer and sells sand from the river. To spend time with family we go out to visit my grandparents. For Christmas this year, we did not celebrate it because one of my brothers was hospitalized due to diabetes. I live in a humble home in Duenas. My house is located about a 20-minute walk from the feeding program. The house we live in is rented. There is one room, and we cook in a galley. The house is made of tin sheet, the roof is made of tin sheet, and the floor is made of dirt. We only have running water but no electricity. Instead, we use a small solar panel, candles, and oil lamps. Our home is in poor condition. The walls of the house are falling apart and the tin sheet that makes up the roof is damaged. Other than my brother, my family is healthy. My brother has diabetes. He has seen a doctor and is being treated. The pandemic has not affected us economically thankfully. I am in fifth grade this year. I am attending night school. I attend Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for two hours each day. On class days I receive my homework and turn in the completed assignments. The pandemic has not affected my learning because I have face-to-face classes. I have internet connection via data on a cellphone. Only my father attends a church. He attends Pool of Siloam Church that is located 20 minutes on a motorcycle. My father is the pastor of the church. He missed seeing his congregation and was very sad when the church closed due to the pandemic. I miss everything about the feeding center. Our greatest needs are electricity and a new roof. I send you a strong hug from the bottom of my heart. May God bless you always! The evangelism team is speaking to families in Duenas by appointment. They spoke to me to receive this information.

Hugs and blessings,

Ashly Yojana Toledo Jerez
